You can't get the real expirience of a country only by seeing it's natural beauties, famous cities, sunny beaches, islands etc. The real expirience is only if you get in touch with the locals.

And Croats, like all others, have some of their specifics:

The propuh – it's a fresh breez created when two windows are open at the same time in the bus, car or house. This breez that help you to breath and to survive the heat is an anormous treat to Croats. For most, it can cause infections, flu and muscle aches and pains. So, beware of propuh!

If you are invated for a dinner, hospitality towards guests is something to be prepared for. You will be offer with drinks, premeal snacks, a meal, cake, coffee and then more drink. Take a little bit of everything. Do not dare to refuse!

After eating fish, or any other seafood, it is not customary to drink wather. Instead enjoy one of the local wines!

Tips for tourists in Croatia

If you plan to spend your vacation in Croatia, here are some tips that you could use. Croatia is one of Europe's rising tourist stars, the country with crystal clean Adriatic sea, thousand of islands, as well as 8 National Parks, many nature parks, lots of monuments, rich history and excellent food and wine.

  1. Apart from Dubrovnik, which you must not miss, we also recommend Split, Šibenik, Zadar, Rovinj, Poreč or Pula. Include at least one National Park; Plitvice, Krka, Kornati, Brijuni or Mljet.
  2. For the summer heat, nothing can replace a cold beer. We can not decide which one we like more, Ožujsko or Karlovačko. Try both of them!
  3. Croatia’s seafood is truly world class. A bounty of fishy delights are hauled daily from the Adriatic, the cleanest corner of the Mediterranean. Even if you’re timid about bones and shells, no trip to the coast is complete without a seafood feast.
  4. As we say in Croatia the fish dips three times, in the sea, in the olive oil and in wine! Spiking of wines, look out for the mighty Dingač red and the dry Pošip white, both from Dalmatia. Istria is renowned for its Malvasija (great with seafood).
  5. Stay in shape. Even though you are on vacation, be active. Croatia offers numerous opportunities for active holidays. From sea activities to climbing or hiking at Paklenica National Park, rafting and canyoning on Cetina river or surfing on the Pelješac Channel.

The last great promotion by men of letters comes from a respectable Guardian's reporter and travel writer Kevin Rushby. In his last adventure he visited Lastovo, Croatia's remotest island, as he said.

„I’m always drawn to the remoter parts of any country. Scanning the map of Croatia I spotted Lastovo, aloof from the other 1,106 islands, way out in the Adriatic, on the way to Italy’s Gargano peninsula. When I learned that visitors can stay at a remote lighthouse there, I was hooked.“

The reporter meets Mladen, keeper of the lighthouse Struga, and joined him on his spear-fishing trip,  explored a dozen lonely coves and rocky shores in his canoe and drove to Lastovo town, a place of ornate chimneys and evocative ruins.

„Later, I lay under the stars on the wall outside my room. A warm wind was blowing and, watching those light beams, I felt like I was being transported by giant magical helicopter to the outer reaches of the cosmos.“

Lastovo – at the edge of the world...

Your secret getaway in Croatia...

Is it on your „to do“ list this summer?

Another great promotion of Dubrovnik in making this days come from 2Cellos. As they post on their facebook, they recorded Game of Thrones video on their „set“ in Dubrovnik.

The medieval town listed as UNESCO World Heritage, the well known Game of Thrones film sets and two great musicans...

Just press play and enjoy!
